Headshot photography
Portrait of a graphic designer (with a touch of fun)
It was a really easy going photo session at Stephen’s house. He is a very bright and creative person and despite he needed just a plain headshot I went to doing it with a little funny twist in post-production in terms of background. Which I believe looks just great for something like facebook profile and other social media usage. Of course I gave him a version with simple white background for more serious purposes too
Portrait in interior of a designer / decorator
Portraiture session of NYC based interior designer and decorator Helaina Bernstein on-location in Upper West Side of Manhattan.
Corporate headshot portrait
It’s always easy to do portraits of a person with outstanding personality. That was the case
I was hired for a corporate headshot portraiture session, because Scott needed new headshots for his upcoming publication. We did it on-location at their office’s library, which was just the right spot for the look he was after.
Scott G. Kaufman is the principal of Crowley & Kaufman, P.C. His practice focuses primarily on Queens County Surrogate’s Court matters. These matters include estate litigation, estate administration and will contests. Scott G. Kaufman also handles all matters relating to Guardianships pursuant to Article 81 of the Mental Hygiene Law. Scott has become a well known and well respected practitioner in both Surrogate’s Court Practice and Guardianship.
Don’t shoot
This was just a test-shot, another part of my ongoing project about uniforms. Fun, fast and easy-going photo session on-location in a basement
We will obviously work on this theme though, I would like to have more action in the image of course.
Just quick ‘strobist’ info behind the image:
one 580ex2 blue-gelled behind him in the boiler room, 1/16;
another one 580ex2 gridded on his face, camera right, 1/16.
F8, 1/160 sec.
Portrait of an interior designer
This week was like week of interior designers’ portraits
– I did 2 of them. This was the first job on that week, beautiful and talented Alicia, really great interior designer, with multi-years experience.
We were about to shoot both indoor and in Central Park at first, bit on the day of photoshoot the weather was quite windy so we dropped the idea of shooting outdoor (November in NYC is always tricky).
I think we got the great imagery despite the space was a little bit too tight so we couldn’t get full-body portrait, but it wasn’t my plan anyway. I quite like the incoming light and those birds in behind the windows
The whole light-colored interior was quite good setup for Alicia’s blonde hair also.
Alicia also is an avid traveler (looks to me she has lived all around the Europe), and she has done an international design jobs as well.
Children ballet headshots
That was extremely funny and easygoing photosession once. It happened during rehearsals at Russian Brighton Ballet School in Brooklyn. I simply fixed paper seamless backdrop to a wall and set a couple of strobes, one in a softbox and another one shooting through white umbrella.
Girls were doing the rest of my job, except pressing the button maybe
But at some moment I found them photographing each other with point and shoot cameras on my backdrop, they were definitely having fun.
Headshot of a composer
This was a headshot portrait session with a well-known composer Andy Mendelson in Lower Manhattan.
We started at his apartment, played a guitar a little bit trying to achieve that ‘moment of creativity’ look and then came out toward beautiful morning light.
To be mobile I used just a couple of Canon Speedlites indoor and only one strobe shooting through softbox when outdoor on-location. The softbox was handheld by my assistant, who was also walking backward at times, parallel to Andy moving toward my camera – tricky part
5-minute headshot
At the end of another very long day I still had some juice and lights set ready
And there were a couple of cool guys helping us with running the photoshoot whom I wanted to photograph. Luckily for me they were interested.
So I just used one rather big softbox for a swift 3-minutes sessions for both Anvil and Carl. I kinda like the result
Fashion lookbook – great team of professionals
It was a very long and fast-moving fashion lookbook photoshoot. The team was working together for the first time and I hope we will have a chance to work again, I like the result very much!
Thanks to all:
Make-up and Hair – Wenya Chang – amazing work, all images you’ll see here are NOT touched for any skin or hair issues (and mostly straight out of the camera, just basic level/contrast/sharpening adjustments). During the whole shoot Wenya was all the time doing the right stuff in the right moment. No need to ask her – she fixes a problem before you see it.
Model – Micaela Piccolo – extremely professional and hard-working, I admire her because she almost couldn’t stand at the end of the very hard day but was able to smile! And what a smile she has!!!
And to me she has that look of Monica Bellucci – check the pictures below for yourself
Portrait photography session for local Boyscout’s Den Leaders
My son loves to be a boyscout (cubscout actually, but… being Webelos II and looking to get to boyscouts next year he could be considered a boyscout already, right
) So I usually spend Fri nights with scouts of Pack 106. And watching the efforts our Den leaders put to work with kids I realize that they actually are just parents like me. And they are tired after working a whole week, and would probably prefer to stay home and watch TV or relax in nay other way….
So I thought that taking their headshots to put them on our Pack web-site could be some way of showing appreciation. So I did it last week. Unfortunately not all leaders were there so hopefully we will continue in the new year.
And it was great fun though

Headshots with actor Joe Beuerlein
What can be better than to meet lovely autumn morning in Central Park? We started a headshot/portrait session at 7.30am with the actor Joseph Beuerlein when the sun was still behind skyscrapers. And we were watching as it goes upper and coloring the trees and waking up the park.
Theatrical portrait session of drag queen Lavinia Co-op
“Lavinia Co-op aka Vincent Meehan was Martha Graham and Ballet trained at L.S.C.D. in the U.K.

Portrait of Fritz-Gollum character
Singing Italian
It was just wonderful weather today and I had a great on-location outdoor photo session with gorgeous Maristella. She is a singer and song-writer, I found her voice charming – you may check it on her web-site.
We worked on her promotional photographs during the session and regular headshots as well. Easy job considering that fact that she was posing for the portraits so professionally as if she spent whole life in front of photo camera

Here is another photo session for a model photography portfolio. I was mostly about to get some portrait with fashion-style lighting though
Besides Anthony was just great – I can recommend him as a model absolutely. He is ready to work, very professional and knows what to do…

Strobist info:
done with just 2 bare Speedlites 580EX. Back light and spot light with homemade barns sometime.
Old story
It was a great photoshoot around the idea given by a client – reference to somewhat old pictures of Robert Downey Jr.
Amir was just an excellent model! He is not an actor but he was absolutely photogenic and didn’t need any direction for posing at all…
Retro movie
Great model and great place for headshot photography session – rooftop with a view to Manhattan, couldn’t be better!
